SPRINGFIELD, Ga. – DRT will begin work this week to bypass the basins that currently store wastewater from the plant. The fiberglass basins have served as a temporary containment site for the plant’s wastewater before it is trucked from the site for treatment. In the new system, water used in the production process will be piped directly into a tank, making this process entirely enclosed – like the rest of the facility.
“This project is a priority,” said John Varonka, Vice President, Ingredients Special Projects. “We believe the environmental research work Trinity is conducting and enclosing our wastewater system will substantially address any odor issues from our facility.”
This project will take place in two phases, with the most significant work being completed in phase 1. DRT expects the first phase to be completed by the end of next week, and phase 2 to be completed in approximately 8-10 weeks. Once finished, production water will go into the enclosed tank, then be pumped into trucks for removal.
“We do want the community to be aware the work in phase 1 includes cleaning the fiberglass basins,” Varonka said. “That means odors might increase from that area for a very short period. We’ll work quickly to minimize them as much as possible.”
