SPRINGFIELD, GA – Trinity Consultants, a nationally known engineering firm, is onsite this week kicking off an odor evaluation in and around DRT’s Springfield facility.
“We’re working diligently to address our neighbors’ concerns – the first step is to collect data and information regarding the odors,” said John Varonka, Vice President, Ingredients Special Projects. “That’s why we’ve hired Trinity Consultants – their extensive experience, technical expertise and tools will help us get to the bottom of the issue. I want to reassure our neighbors that if the odors are coming from DRT, we will work aggressively to address the cause – definitively.”
Trinity’s three-part evaluation will include odor sampling, a field study and modeling assistance to monitor and analyze odors in and around the facility, including at various times of day and night and during a range of weather conditions.
- Odor Sampling: Trinity will perform a multi-day site visit to confirm odorous processes and sampling locations, understand the controls that exist to minimize off-site odor emissions, and collect odor samples from identified locations.
- Field Study: Trinity will tour the surrounding community, using an odor descriptor wheel and Nasal Ranger field olfactometer to record the location, date, time, weather conditions, and odors observed at various locations in the community.
- Modeling Assistance: Following the field studies, Trinity will prepare an odor dispersion modeling analysis utilizing the odor panel laboratory results.
To ensure Trinity can collect data in various weather conditions and times of day, they anticipate the work will take four to six months to complete. DRT plans to share results of Trinity’s work with the public.
